

Infection is a process of invading of pathogens into organism and inflammation is an immune reaction of infected organism to local action of harmful factors.
Risk of infection of female genital organs results mainly from anatomical conditions and so-called neighbourhood, reproductive functions and personal hygiene. Female genital organs are placed in a direct neighbourhood of the anus and urethra, and peritoneal cavity is connected with external environment by the uterine tube, uterus, cervix channel and vagina. Reproductive functions also promote development of infections of urogenital system: sexual intercourses, artificial and spontaneous abortions, post abortion „remnants” and premature delivery. Personal hygiene, especially of external genital organs not only of a woman, but also of a sexual partner, is also important.
Vaginal infection is an inflammation, related to such ailments as vaginal discharge, unpleasant smell, burning and itching. Due to type of causing factor of these ailments, we deal with some types of infections:

Under the influence of widely used antibiotic therapy, hormonal therapy, hormonal contraceptive, disturbances in composition of natural vaginal flora often occur. In such situation strains of potentially pathogenic microorganisms which in normal conditions are inhibited by factors produced by lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus spp.) grow in the vagina.
