Despite determining the list of predisposing factors, etiology of bacterial vaginosis (BV) remains unknown. It has multifactorial character with the role of hormonal disturbances, pH changes and lack of production of hydrogen peroxide. Bacteria responsible for these disturbances are mainly Gardnerella vaginalis, Prevotella spp., Mobiluncus, Mycoplasma hominis.
Mycotic vaginitis is caused most commonly by Candida genus. Infections may occur among other things during using the same towels, sexual intercourses.
Trichomoniasis of the urogenital tract is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, which inhabits the vagina, urethra and peri-urethral glands, and is almost exclusively sexually-transmitted.
