Prophylaxis
In the section below, we would like to explain to you the basic principles due to which you can be protected from unpleasant inflammations occurring in a large group of women. The content which we present are of course educational and, in the case of troublesome vaginitis, they do not replace in any way visiting the gynaecologist.
General principles
Intimate hygiene is very important in prevention of vaginitis and it is based on simple principles:
- Vulva region should be washed every day, at least twice. It is best if a woman uses a towel intended only for intimate hygiene.
- A shower or bidet is best for washing the vulva. Washing and drying of intimate regions should be carried out from the front to behind in order to avoid transmission of infection from anal region.
- For intimate hygiene, fluids of pH similar to vaginal pH should be used. Other washing agents may destroy protective vaginal flora, and some of them are the cause of allergic conditions of the vulva and vaginal vestibule.
- Using cotton underwear prevents development of inflammations, mainly mycotic.
- Frequent irrigations cause disturbances of protective bacterial flora (it regenerates as late as after 3 days after irrigation).
